Walking, in all cases where it is possible, is the best remedy for diseased bodies, because in this exercise all the organs of the body are brought into use. There is no exercise that can take the place of walking. By it the circulation of the blood is greatly improved. (CH p.200)
Life Science Division at Lawrence Berkely National lab in 2013 looked at data from 33,000 runners and nearly 16,000 walkers to compare the health outcomes.

It is the surest safeguard against colds, coughs, congestion of the brain, inflammation of the liver, the kidneys,and the lungs, and a hundred other diseases. (HL p.176).
Best time to walk if you want to loss weight is in the morning before breakfast because 100% fat is burnt. 
Note that an hour of walk a day is equal to 20 units of insulin. So walking is a powerful remedy for diabetics.
